摘要

A system to represent and visualize scalar volume data at multiplenresolution is presented. The system is built on a multiresolution modelnbased on tetrahedral meshes with scattered vertices that can be obtainednfrom any initial dataset. The model is built off-line through datansimplification techniques, and stored in a compact data structure thatnsupports fast on-line access. The system supports interactivenvisualization of a representation at an arbitrary level of resolutionnthrough isosurface and projective methods. The user can interactivelynadapt the quality of visualization to requirements of a specificnapplication task and to the performance of a specific hardware platform.nRepresentations at different resolutions can be used together to furthernenhance interaction and performance through progressive andnmultiresolution rendering
