A protocol called modified broadcast access method (MBRAM) is presented that is based on the broadcast recognizing access method (BRAM). The goal was to develop a protocol that would support large file transfers from priority nodes (such as image workstations) and still provide reasonable access for nonpriority nodes for normal traffic, using standard Ethernet hardware. Initial results and future-simulation and experiments on a prototype testbed are reported, showing that MBRAM meets the requirements.
