Presents a theoretical investigation of the noise behavior of ansemiconductor laser operating under relatively strong light injection.nEquations have been presented to describe the noise effect through thencalculation of the relative intensity noise as well as thencarrier-to-noise ratio available at the receiving end. Illustrativenexamples are given, showing the impact of the master and slave lasernbias currents. Also, the injection-locked and free-running operationnregimes have been comparatively analyzed. The results show how the noisencharacteristics are affected by optical injection and, consequently, hownthe operating conditions must be chosen to reduce this effect. Innparticular, it is shown, in agreement with previous works, that thenmaster laser emission noise will essentially take the lead. As a result,nto improve the noise behavior by injection locking a solitary laser, thenuse of a low-noise master laser is required. To make it easy to applynthe present results to any laser diode under the stable-lockingncondition, the necessary relations are explicitly given beforenspecifying the parameters of simulation
