DNA sequencing and analysis reagents developed using thenfluorescence energy transfer (ET) principle and synthetic chemistry arenmarkedly superior when compared to single dye-labeled oligonucleotidenprimers and dideoxynucleotides. These ET reagents played a key role innsequencing the human genome. Combinatorial fluorescence energy transfern(CFET) tags, constructed by exploiting energy transfer and combinatorialnsynthesis to generate unique fluorescence emission signatures, allownmultiplex biological assays to be performed. All of the CFET tags can benexcited at a single wavelength and analyzed by a simple optical system.nThe design, synthesis, spectroscopic properties, and applications ofnthese flourescent molecular tools in genomics are described
