THROUGHOUT THE 20TH CENTURY, electrification became the most important engineering achievement, according to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Power generation and distribution, communication, heating, lighting, and control systems are examples of the industrial domains that were transformed by electrification. However, electrification has had the negative attribute of exposing people to potential injury and property loss from electrical hazards. Dramatic inventions and more uses in electrical technology have come at the expense of many lives and limbs [1].
