More clout as a European force?

As I write, towards the end of March, Westminster is not paying much attention to transport affairs having other things on its mind. There is, however, a select committee inquiry under way into certain aspects of air transport. Last November, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) announced a decision on the legality of bilateral air service agreements between the United States and a number of European Union member states. In short, these judgements declared these agreements (ASAs) were in breach of the Treaty which established the European Community and the Commission in Brussels demanded that Member States should scrap existing ASAs with the US and give the Commission a mandate to negotiate on behalf of the EU as a whole.
