Greater controls will improve roads' safety

Alfred McAlpine has called for greater controls in all aspects of traffic management and highways maintenance activities after a road operative was hit by a passing car. An experienced highways term-maintenance foreman was seriously injured in September when he was hit by a passing car, on a busy country road. Both the Police and HSE are still investigating the circumstances of the accident and therefore full details can not be given, however at the time of the incident the work being undertaken was in advance of proposed road improvements that were planned to be com- pleted with traffic management controls in place.
