Travel plans play vital role

Travel plans are increasingly seen as having a central role in encouraging good quality, sustainable development Planning authorities, transport stakeholders and developers are required now more than ever to embed sustainable transport measures within the early planning process. The Government seeks to achieve this by front-loading the preparation of travel plans prior to planning submission. The Department for Transport and the Communities and Local Government jointly published new national guidance on travel planning in April 2009. Good Practice Guidelines: Delivering Travel Plans through the Planning Process provides planning and transport authorities, developers and other stakeholders with a steer on the essential role that travel plans now have in the development planning and control processes.
