Rosie Shanks, commercial director of Prismo Road Markings, considers whether road markings can really improve road safety.rnShockingly, nearly 2,500 people were killed on the UK's road network in 2008. This is a tragic loss of life by any standards, especially when many accidents can and should be prevented. Whilst it is little comfort, the figure begins to pale into insignificance when you consider that in 1966 nearly 8,000 people died on British roads at a time when traffic was only a quarter of today's levels.rnRegional data, however, illustrates some interesting trends. A recent article in the 'Northern Echo' showed that between 2008 and 2009, the number of road fatalities in the north east of England decreased by 15.4%, compared with the previous year.
