I started in this kind of journalism in 1973, when Sidney Lenssen asked me to join the New Civil Engineer to do a then weekly column on the relationship between public affairs and the construction industry. As I had, by then, been a civil engineer for 13 years and an MP for seven, this seemed to be a good idea. And so it was, but not everybody agreed.
