Cumbria County Council has spent £7m on a new fleet of 150 vehicles as part of its new in-house highways service. Half of the new fleet is comprised of tipper vehicles, ranging from 3.5 tonnes to 18 tonnes, to transport materials such as rock, gravel, bitumen surfacing and salt around the county council's road network of 4,784 miles.
