Contractors chase £75m highways improvement framework

A host of contractors are circling a new framework being put together for local authority road works in eastern England that could see spending of up to £75 million over the next four years. The Eastern Highways Alliance has been put together by nine local authorities and contractors expected to submit bids by the February 10 deadline include Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall, Jackson, May Gurney, Osborne, Ringway and Tarmac. Four contractors should be appointed by April 2012 and work will then be procured through the framework, which has been valued at between £50 million and £75 million but working out an exact figure is difficult.
