£85 million Crossing contract chase

A host of contractors are in the chase for the revised £85 million contract to build out long-running plans for a New Wear Crossing in Sunderland.Balfour Beatty, Dragados, Farrans and Hochtief are all in the mix for the deal, which has been put out to tender again by Sunderland City Council after the initial plans were deemed too costly.A partnership between local architects Stephen Spence Associates and structural engineers Techniker first began working for the council as far back as 2004 but proposals put out to market for what would be Britain's tallest bridge were ditched in the summer of 2013.
