As highway consultants and contractors demand greater value and increased dependability from their engineering solutions, so they are starting to pay more attention to sustainable infrastructure principles. Nowhere is this better illustrated than when it comes to retaining walls or embankments, where traditional concrete is now having to compete with the continuous development and innovation of geogrid and geotextile technology.A retaining wall made of poured concrete can be expensive, time-consuming and often requires specialised equipment to construct. Concrete block systems can go in cheaper than poured walls but many have common structural and finish issues.
