Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA) members are acutely aware of the consequences for their teams working on the UK's road network. Over the last couple of years in particular there have been some high profile incidents on the strategic road network, some of which have led to life changing injuries for those affected. In 2014 HTMA members began voicing their opinions on what needed to be done to improve and as a result of this dialogue the concept for this event was proposed anc very quickly gained support from within HTMA, from Highways England, the Road Workers' Safety Forum (RoWSaF) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Representatives from all these organisations have been involved in the summit steering group which reports into HTMA as the main event sponsor.
