Costain overhauls Balfour to claim top spot

Costain has surged past Balfour Beatty to claim top spot after another bumper quarter saw the group's roads order book swell further. Costain was top in the quarterly tables for Q1 2015 and retained top spot in the latest quarter to June 2015 after winning, in joint venture with Skanska, the first two packages on the A1 project according to Glenigan's contracts leagues produced exclusively for Highways Magazine. The Costain/Skanska JV will work on a section from Alconbury to the East Coast Mainline, and another running from east of the East Coast Mainline to Swavesey. Elsewhere, Amey was amongst the front runners in the second quarter after bagging a major £235 million 10-year term maintenance contract for Trafford Borough Council, but a number of other major projects let in Q2 were taken by joint ventures.
