The pothole leagues

These days, highway engineers are focused on asset management and risk analysis. Some do not even like to mention the dreaded 'p word', but there is no denying that potholes make up a large part of the sector's day-to-day work and are a key issue for the public. Despite all the improvements in the sector over recent years, this is also one area where we are still struggling. According to the Asphalt Industry Alliance's Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance survey 2017, the average number of potholes filled in 2016/17 per local authority across England was 13,468 and fresh figures show that Britain suffered a difficult first quarter this year when it comes to potholes. The RAC says it dealt with over 6,500 breakdown jobs between January and March 2017 that were likely to be attributable to poor road surfaces.
