Extreme weather events, ranging from heatwaves and droughts to cold snaps and localised flooding, have always been a feature of our climate. Preparing for these occurrences has always been a critical concern for infrastructure planners, designers and contractors. However, in our sector there is a growing recognition that these scenarios are increasing in number and severity. Events previously predicted to occur once in 100 years now need to be factored in on a 10 or 20-year basis.
