This article was written shortly after returning from the 15th PIARC winter conference in Gdansk. Dozens of papers and posters were presented on the latest technology and equipment to improve winter service. Talking to winter managers from around the world it became clear that the UK is one of the few countries where de-icing salt is still routinely stored in the open.
