摘要

The Linkconnex consortium has landed a £320m contract to tackle one of the South Coast's worst bottlenecks by delivering the A27 Arundel bypass in West Sussex. The consortium comprises contractor BAM Nuttall and consultants Aecom and Mace and will deliver the main works for Highways England. Doug Mills, operations manager at BAM Nuttall's regional delivery partnership, said: 'We look forward to continuing delivering sustainable infrastructure, improving safety and reducing congestion and travel time while protecting and respecting the surrounding environment.' The project comprises an 8km stretch of dual carriageway to draw traffic away from Arundel and smaller routes in the nearby South Downs National Park. Two consultations have already been carried out into the project and the preferred route will run north of Walberton and south of Binsted and miss out the South Downs National park completely. Design work is underway and once complete the consortium will apply for a development consent order. Several other consultants are also working for Highways England on the project, including civil engineers WSP and Knight Architects. Topographical survey work started in September 2020 and was completed last month (April), while ground investigation surveys are being carried out until this summer. The main construction work is expected to begin in 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
