Definitely Mabey for Delta Bridge

Mabey Bridge has a deal to replace a bridge linking Great Bernera and Lewis in the Western Isles. The current bridge, built in 1953, is believed to be the first pre-stressed concrete bridge built in the UK. It will be replaced by a single-span steel Delta bridge that will be 4.2 metres wide and take traffic up to 44 tonnes. Michael Treacy, the chief executive officer of Mabey Bridge, said: 'We're delighted to be supplying the first Delta bridge to Scotland and proud to have been selected to take part in this important project to restore a vital crossing to the benefit of the residents of Great Bernera.' The new bridge is expected to open to traffic this summer. No value has been disclosed but building information specialist Glenigan values the project at £900,000.
