The Changing Face of Highways Authorities

In an exclusive interview with the Road Safety Markings Association for Top Marks, Mark Corbin outlines the challenges faced by transport bodies across the country to ensure key local road networks are fit-for-the-future. The term "combined authority" is a relatively new phenomenon. The first to be established was the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in 2011. Four additional combined authorities were established in 2014 (NorthEast, Liverpool City Region, Sheffield City Region, West Yorkshire). Since then, further 'devolution deals' have been negotiated between the Government and other areas, and further mayoral combined authorities have been delivered.
