Asuccessful traffic calming scheme around an inner city London school has been recognised at the Street Design Awards, sponsored by Highways. The Awards, which are run by Highways' sister magazine, Local Government News, were relaunched this year and recognise innovation and best practice by, or on behalf of, local authorities in UK street design schemes. The Highways category, both sponsored and judged by this magazine, included traffic calming schemes, road safety improvements and new infrastructure. Competition was fierce, which bodes well for the sector, and some excellent schemes were put forward, each with individual aspects of innovation, engineering and design that allowed authorities to achieve added value and solve multiple problems.
