Highways England forced to act on smart motorway safety concerns

Highways England is 'struggling to understand' the recent controversy over the safety of all lane running smart motorways its chief executive has said, but the Government-owned company has pledged a range of actions to help reassure users. Highways England said: 'All lane running (ALR) schemes that are currently scheduled to start construction after March 2020 will have a stopped vehicle detection (SVD) solution.'
