Standing the test of time

There has been a bridge at Rochester for almost 2,000 years thanks to Roman engineering and their need to cross the river Medway. In fact it might be fairer to say the town of Rochester has existed at the site of the bridge for more than 2,000 years. The three bridges of the Rochester Bridge Trust run almost exactly on the site of the original Roman structure, thought to be the first they built in England after they made their military advance from Richborough on the Kent coast in around 43AD.
