It is with great sadness that Highways reports the passing of Ben Hamilton-Baillie at the age of 63 after a short illness. Mr Hamilton-Baillie was one of the best-known figures in UK highways and urban design. The domestic figurehead for the controversial shared space movement, Mr Hamilton-Baillie was a disciple of Dutch traffic engineer Hans Monderman but made a name in his own right with bold road designs - notably in Poynton and Oxford.
