The solidification of a binary solution on a cold horizontal surface below eutectic temperature is solved using a semi-exact method. The temperature distributions in the solid and liquid zones are obtained by exact solutions, while heat transfer in the mushy zone is obtained by an integral approximate method. The locations of the interface between solid and mushy zones and interface between mushy and liquid zones are obtained by coupling the temperature distributions in the three regions. The effects of initial temperatures, wall temperatures, and initial concentrations on the solidification of the binary solution are investigated.
