Fast passenger ferries were developed over the last two decades by Norwegian boatyards, especially Kvaerner Fjellstrand. Around 150 craft have been built in series in lengths of 25.50 m, 31.50 m, 38.80 m, 40.00 m and now 60.00 m. As a direct consequence of the stra-tegie decision in Kvaerner to exit from shipbuilding, Kvaerner Fjellstrand was sold to new owners. The new name of the company is Fjellstrand AS, which in fact is the original name of the company. The new owners consist of the present management, a Norwegian industrial company and a Norwegian shipping company. These new owners form a solid and industrially well founded group of companies and individuals.
