There is a great dissatisfaction in many parts of the world with IMO's proposed 30 per cent cut in NOx emissions, from the 1992 level, by 2000. As the first country, Sweden decided to act. Sweden devised its own system of differentiated port and fairway dues. This makes vessels producing higher levels of NOx and SOx pay more to visit the country's ports than an environment-friendly ship of similar size.
