Future Oriented Naval Technologies

After 1997,2002 and now 2006, this is the third conference of this kind held in Hamburg. MECON follows the well-known Blohm + Voss and now ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) design-concept MEKO (Mehrzweck-Kombination) with the first two letters ME for multi purpose combination and CON for conference. The MEKO system is exclusively used for surface naval craft designed and mainly built by German yards. In his welcome address Ole von Beust, First Mayor of Hamburg, explained: »The success of the first conference held in 1997 promised further events to follow on a regular basis. Now nine years later, MECON has become a well established venue, conducted under the TKMS flag, and is the showcase for new shipbuilding tradition emerging in Hamburg.
