The offshore wind energy sector may profit from the oil and gas industry in some areas. At the recent Offshore Business Meetings and Conference (OBMC 2011) at Husum, Joergen Thiele, Director of the foundation »Stiftung Offshore Windenergie«, explained: »Learning from the oil and gas industry means we do not have to make its mistakes for a second time.« Since material research, e.g. in the area of protection against corrosion, overlaps in both industries, there is considerable potential for learning. Tension occurs at support structures for wind turbines and oil rigs alike, but horizontal load accounts for 80 % to 90 % at offshore wind installations while vertical load remains low and vice versa at oil rigs. The combined use of special and multi-functional ships, however, has also proved successful in the oil and gas business, but experts warned necessary ship production may fall behind demand.%Learning from the oil and gas sectors« lautete das Leitthema der »OBMC 2011« (Offshore Business Meetings and Conference), zu der die Netzwerkagentur Wind-comm Schleswig-Holstein für den 7. und 8. November nach Husum eingeladen hatte. Rund 300 Besucher bescherten der dritten Auflage der Veranstaltung nach 2009 und 2010 eine Rekordbeteiligung und stellten damit unter Beweis, dass der Ausbau der Offshore-Windenergie weiter an Fahrt gewinnt.
