Even 135 years after its foundation on 4 April 1877 the shipyard Blohm + Voss enjoys a worldwide legendary reputation still today. On the one hand this is certainly based on the achievements of its founders Hermann Blohm and Ernst Voss as well as their succes sors Rudolf and Walther Blohm. After initial difficulties their enterprise had developed into the largest privately owned yard area with the highest dock capacity at least in Europe before the outbreak of World War I. On the other hand the good name is also owed to many of the ships built by the yard before the war and afterwards as they have written maritime history. Blohm + Voss had gained a superior position in international shipbuild ing, underpinned by the progress made in ship engine construction - a special rank still being kept today. Even the fast structural alterations experiened during the last decade could not change this. An exhibition presently shown at the International Maritime Mu seum Hamburg gives information about this and is well worth visiting.%Blohm + Voss - Von Schiffen und der Kunst sich immer wieder neu zu erfin den« ist der Titel einer überaus sehens werten Ausstellung, die bis Ende Oktober im Internationalen Maritimen Museum Ham burg (IMMH) zu sehen ist.
