摘要

First research institutes in Germany From the 1880s and 1890s, imperial Germany experienced tremendous economic growth, transforming what used to be a quiet and unassuming, politically fragmented patchwork of territories in the centre of Europe into one of the world's leading industrialised countries. Merchant shipping, the navy and the shipyard industry in Germany also expanded, becoming second only to their British counterparts in the years up to 1914.
