»Training meets science« - inside a simulator trainee's head

Stress and high workload create problems in many ways, not at sea only. When under pressure, we easily lose control of a situation, and when stress becomes a permanent condition, it causes disease. One answer to this phenomenon could be provided by the higly complex processes inside our brains. In a first test series different probands, nautical students, were connected to an EEG (electroencephalogram) while they were completing a training session in a ship handling simulator. The test series will be continued during a presentation at the congress exhibition ITS 2014 in Hamburg. The series aims at capturing situational stress in specific variations and to uncover this kind of stress in a visible scale.
