KN - The new Fincantieri MDV highspeed ferries are revolutionizing medium-range connections, allowing passengers and their cars to halve crossing times. These mono-hull deep-V (MDV) ferries of several sizes and capacities, built both of light alloy aluminium (AA) and high-tensile steel (HTS), reach speeds of 40 knots and are capable of accommodating up to 1,800 passengers and 850 cars. The design for these new high-speed vessels has been developed after the experience gained from an exceptional test bench: The victorious challenge of the »Destiero«, the record-ship, being faster than all Atlantic-liners fighting for the Blue Riband. Construction details are finalized for »MDV 1200« (2 x HTS »SuperSeaCat«; 6 x AA »Pegasus«), »MDV 1400 - Libra«, »MDV 1700 -Juno«, »MDV 2000 - Neptune« and »MDV 3000 - Jupiter« (4 x HTS).
