摘要

The yards have to look for other jobs, e.g. from merchant marine owners. This can be difficult and sometimes expensive. A new contract of this kind was recently received for two cruise ships by Ingalls.During the Sea-trade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami (9th-12th March 1999), American Classic Voyages (AMCV) and Litton Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division, Pascagoula, Mississippi, presented details of their »Project America« contract to construct the largest U.S. cruise ships ever built and the first large cruise ships in the United States in more than 40 years. Under the terms of the »Project Ame-rica« contract, which has a potential value of $ 1.4 billion for up to three vessels, Ingalls will initially build two 1,900-passenger U.S. flag cruise ships for AMCV, with an option for a third vessel. The base price for the first two ships, not including incentive payments available to Ingalls, is $ 880 million. These state-of-the-art luxury cruise ships will sail between the Hawaiian Islands. The first vessel is scheduled to enter service in early 2003.
