At last KWW delivered newbuilding no. 019, container ship » P&O Nedlloyd Tasman «. It is the largest vessel of this type (67,902 GT; 5,468 TEU) ever produced by a German yard and the first unit in a series of five (3 x KWW, 2 x MTW), all to be delivered within this year. In March 1998, during a phase when the first ship of a series of five container vessels with a capacity of 2,900 TEU each (Type » Warnow CV 2900 «) was delivered for customer P&O Nedlloyd (PON) Kvaerner Warnow Werft (KWW) successfully negotiated and signed a new contract for delivery of three container vessels with a capacity of now 5,500 TEU for globally operating container shipping company PON. These newbuildings are currently the biggest ones ever built in Germany with regard to deadweight, speed, size of main engine and container carrying capacity. The order was won against stiffest competition especially from South Korea.
