Innovative Solutions for the gas vector in the space heating market: The innovative thermally driven heat-pump

This paper presents an innovative thermally driven heat-pump cycle for the purpose of domestic space heating. The product derived from the technology reached the market maturity after more than 10 years of R&D in France. Multiply-ing the gas utilisation efficiency by two was recently proven with such natural or liquid gas driven heat-pumps. The simple and robust 20 kW heating and DHW unit is designed for the replacement of old boilers in the building stock. Its System includes a condensation unit, a quiet heat-pump compressor due to low cycling frequency, CO_2 (R744) as envi-ronmentally friendly refrigerant and generates its renewable ambient energy by means of a brine loop from the out-side air or groundwater. Such gas driven heat-pumps with a power modulation ränge of 1:5 and a product ränge for 10 to 250 kW of heating power demand can strongly contribute to the decarbonisation of the building stock in central and eastern Europe.
