Water Treatment Practices at Groundwater-Supplied Community Water Systems in the United States

Groundwater-supplied community water systems in the United States primarily applied treatments of chlorine, clearwells/contact vessels, corrosion control, fluoride addition, and aeration to the water supplied to their customers. These results are from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) latest Community Water System Survey (CWSS) conducted in 2006. This survey was done for the year 2006 with the full report being available in 2009 and serving as reference for future regulatory development. Other treatments were also used as indicated in the following text and in Table 1. The survey randomly selected from among the 52,000 community water systems and received responses from 1,949 of them.
