A Site investigation master plan is being developed by consultant Faber Maunsell to create a new fully automated book storage facility for the British Library at its Boston Spa site in north England. The consultant has been retained since April to provide initial planning services for assessing the site's ecology, renewables, flood risk and geoenvironment. Completion of the master plan is due by the end of next month when Faber will pass its study on to main architect HOK. The site is identified on historic maps as a football pitch. But the semi-rural site occupies about 24ha of an ex-munitions factory and is also the site of the old Boston Spa railway station.
