Industry testing methodologies for rockfall barriers fall into two camps: ETAG 027 from the EU and the Swiss methodology, produced by the Swiss Agency for the Environment, Forests and Landscape (SAEFL), sometimes referred to as BAFU. ETAG 027 is the new European testing methodology and is steadily being adopted throughout the EU. Mandatory acceptance dates have been published and ETAG 027 compliance is already a legal requirement in both France and Italy.
