Plumstead collapse leads to calls for greater GI investment

Mining risk specialists have called for greater investment in ground investigation after a ground collapse close to newly built houses near Plumstead in south east London in May. Residents from 40 properties owned by Hexagon Housing were evacuated after ground collapsed in front of two houses on the Brickfield Cottages development. Most residents have been allowed to return home after the cavity was backfilled with concrete but families living in five of the housing association properties remain in temporary accommodation.
