A team of more than 50 geotechnical engineers, geologists and hydrogeologists is responsible for the geotechnical design of 30 different assets for the 24km tunnelling project between Euston and West Ruislip for High Speed 2 (HS2). For the scheme design, the entire team was co-located with the contractor and client in a project office. When moving into detailed design, the teams dispersed across the world with a core geotechnical support team remaining in the office. According to the team, it has been interesting to explore the differences in how geotechnical design is delivered in the UK, Spain and Germany. Through knowledge sharing, the team has developed a hybrid system that works for a UK project.
