Contractor Dragados achieved a major milestone on the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project last month with breakthrough of a tunnel to connect a new entrance at Cannon Street station with a new Northern Line platform. The breakthrough on the £665M Transport for London (TfL) project was made at the bottom of the new 8m diameter escalator barrel, which will carry passengers from a new ticket hall to the new Northern line south bound platform. At present, the two Northern line platforms are heavily congested and their narrow platforms are unable to cope with the volume of passengers. A new, wider southbound platform tunnel is being built adjacent to the existing one, to ease congestion.
