Challenging convention

Saturated sand ground conditions at a site in Montrose, Scotland has given foundation contractor Keller the perfect opportunity to deliver a UK first using an alternative secant pile wall design. Development of a new facility for a major oil and gas client called for construction of a test pit, but the high groundwater levels meant that the excavation phase would call for significant dewatering work. The client's engineer - Ramsay and Chalmers - contacted Keller to develop a solution for a retaining wall solution for the 16m long, 10m wide and 7m deep test pit, which will be filled with water for testing equipment for the oil and gas sector before deployment.
