Third-party groups are flooding the Iowa Senate race with fresh ads today as environmentalists take on state Sen. Joni Ernst (R) and a conservative group hits Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley over support he has received from billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer. The Iowa Senate race, a tight battle over the seat of retiring Sen. Tom Harkin (D), has already seen more than $11 million in outside spending, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. In the latest round of attacks, both the Sierra Club Political Committee and the NextGen Climate political action committee take on Ernst over climate change policy. The Sierra Club also hits Ernst over comments she made at a campaign event earlier this month in which she acknowledged she would consider privatizing Social Security to confront rising entitlement program costs.
