L.A. officials mull whether to sue battery plant

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is considering taking legal action against a Vernon, Calif., battery recycler to force the plant to close and clean up area neighborhoods. The supervisors directed county lawyers to "explore potential legal actions against Exide Technologies" and report back next week with a plan to force the plant to shut down and fix lead and arsenic contamination that has reached nearby homes.
