Governor-elect names former rival, environmental secretary as chief of staff

Democratic Pennsylvania Gov.-elect Tom Wolf named his former opponent, Kathleen "Katie" McGinty, as his chief of staff yesterday. McGinty is a former state environmental protection secretary and battled Wolf in the primary earlier this year. "Katie McGinty has broad experience in state and federal government and in the private sector," said Wolf in a statement. "She will be an asset to my administration and to the people of Pennsylvania." McGinty previously worked for former Vice President Al Gore when he was a Democratic U.S. senator from Tennessee. Gov. Ed Rendell (D) appointed McGinty as secretary of the state Department of Environmental Protection in 2003, and she held the position until 2008. McGinty's resume also includes service on boards of many energy and environmental development companies.
