W.Va. governments file suit over landfill waste from chemical spill

A city and county government in West Virginia filed a federal lawsuit yesterday seeking to force the removal from a local landfill of 228 tons of waste linked to a chemical spill earlier this year. Putnam County and the city of Hurricane want Waste Management of West Virginia to remove contaminated wastewater mixed with sawdust from an area landfill. The wastewater contains 4- methylcyclohexane methanol (MCHM), propylene glycol phenyl ether (PPH) and dipropylene glycol phenyl ether (DiPPH). The governments also want the company to pay for removal costs, which have been estimated in the millions of dollars.
