New spokeswoman has USDA experience, campaign chops

Meet Liz Purchia, the newest addition to U.S. EPA's communications team. Purchia, who has worked in the press shops at the Agriculture Department and for President Obama's re-election campaign, started as the agency's press secretary this week. She's returning to Washington, D.C., after a stint in Boston at the Solomon McCown & Co. public relations firm. She did communications for Obama's inaugural committee and was press secretary in Iowa during the 2012 re-election campaign. For the first three years of the Obama administration, Purchia worked at USDA, where she was deputy press secretary for Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan. She also worked on the administration's first inaugural committee and as a field organizer for Obama's 2008 campaign.
